The Crab & Winkle Restaurant
"A Real Taste Of Whitstable"

The “Crab and winkle” at Whitstable is an exquisite dining experience. If you love “Fish” then a visit is not to be missed, the restaurant is the winner of the AA Rosette for culinary excellence 2008/9.

The restaurant overlooks a working Harbour, fish from the local boats is sold both in the restaurant and fish market below. This is why we can offer some of the finest fish and seafood in the area, with wine to complement.

How did we begin! The journey began in May 1830 with George and Robert Stephenson as supervising engineers. The first train called the “invicta” was based on the design of the rocket and left Canterbury at 11.25am to the sound of the cathedral bells, cannons firing and bands playing. Day-trippers came from Canterbury to bathe in the sea and to enjoy the wonderful sea food which Whitstable was and still is famous for.

Hence the affectionate nickname..

Today the railway line is closed, but all is not lost you can still cycle or walk along the Crab & Winkle from Whitstable to CANTERBURY and back. Back to my story!
First came the Fish Market which is now situated on the old railway turntable, in the small seaside town you know the name by now, visitors used to stumble upon the amazing collection of fish for sale from the local fishing boats. The word got out and now the town is visited by people from all over the world, thus the Crab & Winkle was born.
We give to you situated on the Harbour one of the finest places to dine, with the best sea views and sun sets you could wish to see. People have travelled all over the world and have said they had not seen such amazing sun sets.

One of the treats of having a working Fish Market below Is on request when the Market is open, you can choose a Fish of your choice and have it cooked and served in our Restaurant.

About Us
We are based at the historical harbour in Whitstable renowned for millenia for its oysters and recently its fish. We are right on top of the Whitstable Fish Market (our parent company) so we really are a fish restaurant with plenty of know how and a head chef who really appreciates the fresh seafood he is proud to prepare each day. It is therefore with great satisfaction that we are soon to be delivering seafood in your area through our newly formed seafood delivery service.
